Black Mountains Gliding Club

Talgarth Airfield is home to a small and very active gliding club, 970 feet above sea level in the stunning scenery of the Black Mountains.
 
We offer air experience flights through our voucher scheme, see our website for details. Our tow plane will release you to glide above the mountains, with views from Hay Bluff to Llangorse, and beyond to the Beacons and South Wales Valleys. Why not sign up for a flight? For those wishing to progress further, our instructors can take members from being total beginners through to solo flying and beyond. With soarable conditions on most days, our average flight times are amongst the longest in the UK. For the experienced pilot, we can offer ridge runs and wave flying in almost any wind direction, and cross-country options with few airspace restrictions.
 
The club fleet consists of two tow planes, three two-seater training gliders and two single-seat gliders. There are also a large number of privately owned gliders on site.
 
The club operates 7 days a week during the summer months, Friday to Sunday in spring and autumn, and weekends only during the winter.
