Our Local Brecon Beacons Producers Shine
This weekend, the Abergavenny Food Festival is set to highlight the best of local food and drink, with members of Brecon Beacons Tourism at the forefront. Among the standout names is Black Mountains Smokery, which recently achieved a major victory at the Great Taste Golden Forks 2024, bringing home the prestigious Golden Fork for Wales.
Black Mountains Smokery: A Taste of Perfection
At the Great Taste Awards ceremony held at London’s Battersea Arts Centre, Black Mountains Smokery’s smoked Gressingham duck breast took centre stage. Judges hailed it as a “superb example of smoking,” praising the balance of flavours and its smooth, melt-in-your-mouth texture. This family-operated business, based in Crickhowell, is renowned for its traditionally cured and smoked products, sourced from top British suppliers. Their recent award reinforces their reputation as a leading gourmet producer in Wales, and they continue to be a key player in Brecon Beacons’s food scene.
The Tap Room Menu Conundrum
Also making waves at the festival is Adrian Morales Maillo, the mind behind Sobremesa Drinks, a Brecon Beacons-based company crafting unique farmhouse beers and natural ciders. On Friday evening, Adrian will join forces with James Swift, founder of the award-winning Trealy Farm Charcuterie, in an event called The Tap Room Menu Conundrum. They’ll explore how best to pair James’ vast selection of charcuterie with Adrian’s locally brewed drinks, inviting attendees to contribute their ideas. With expert guidance from Pete Brown, a renowned beer writer, this event will be an exciting journey through taste and pairings.
