In 2001 when Longtown’s village shop closed, we began a journey to bring our community and visitors a shop that offers more. Hopes of Longtown is built on the principles of supporting a vibrant local economy, sustainable living and an active community.
We are set in the spectacular rural Herefordshire setting of Longtown, a stone’s throw from the Welsh border. All around us are unique local businesses creating wonderful produce that we are proud to support. We have a truly active community busy making rural life better for everyone that we feel very much part of and support every day.
We are lucky to have an extraordinary natural heritage that we want to protect for the benefit of everyone. From the products we sell to the way we run our business, the environment is always central to our actions.
We are family run and independent. It makes us very happy to hear – from local and visiting customers – how much they enjoy shopping with us. If you are happy, we are happy.
Offering much more than basic essentials – try our regional and speciality produce from fabulous local artisans – selected for quality, taste and originality. Hopes of Longtown is more than just a village shop, not only do they stock a range of high-quality local produce, gifts and essentials, but they also provide support to local people, they act as a local food bank, and more recently have offered a Covid secure shopping environment to suit all their customers differing needs. Hopes of Longtown is staffed by a passionate team of people who value their community.
2021 was a special year, with Hopes of Longtown scooping two special awards. For the 5th consecutive year Hopes of Longtown was named in the UK’s Top 100 Independent Convenience Shops by Better Retailing.com and was also crowned Best Local Food Retailer in the Hereford Times Food and Farming Awards.
