Brecon Beacons Foraging

Hello! I’m Adele. You might have come across some of my books, including ‘The Hedgerow Handbook’ and ‘The Garden Forager’, both beautifully illustrated by Lizzie Harper of Hay on Wye.

There’s a huge interest in foraging. Some of the best restaurants in the world, and those in the UK are renowned for their use of wild ingredients.
Many chefs also use foraged foods.
Brecon Beacons Foraging end product of a long-term dream that Wales should have the first dedicated foraging centre in the UK. We’re based in Llanfrynach, a couple of miles east of Brecon.

I firmly believe that Wales  offer the best foraging in the UK, as well as the most glorious, supermodel landscape that money just can’t buy.  Foraging, as a complete sensory experience, is not restricted to simply harvesting ingredients for the dinner plate!

I offer several different courses.
Regular Events
Half-day courses: These go from The Angel Hotel, Abergavenny, and run on the last Sunday of the month, from March to October. We meet outside the main door of the Hotel at 10am for a 10.15 start.
Cost is £35.00 per person, payable in advance, children go free (one free child per paying adult although I’m flexible about this)

Weekday courses (and some weekend courses) ‘on demand’, from 4 people upwards.
We meet near Brecon and the price is £40.00 per adult with children free (one free child per paying adult preferred although I’m flexible about this).

Bespoke foraging experiences
I can offer bespoke foraging sessions. Whether you’re on holiday and would like a forage from your base or you just want to know what you can find in your local surroundings, I can help. The pricing will depend on numbers, mileage and how long you’d like the experience to be. To arrange just send me an email (details below) and we can plan your perfect forage together.

Botanical Gin Foraging
This is a very popular and brilliantly fun way to learn about plants, especially if you have a group activity in mind for a special occasion!
In an event that lasts about 3 hours, I take you on a forage (usually from where you are staying) to find ingredients that can be used as a flavour or garnish, then we come back to base to play with an intriguing array of botanical herbs and tinctures. I also include a cocktail made using wild ingredients to get you into the swing of things (non-alcoholic cocktails are not a problem).
You get to take home a 300ml jar of your own unique blend.
Prices start at £50 per person, plus petrol if you’re more than 10 miles away.

How to book
Booking is super easy just email breconbeaconsforaging@gmail.com with which course you’re interested in and I will respond with all the details and an invoice with details on how to make the payment.
All courses must be paid for in advance.

Bespoke Events – How about a forage as a gift for a special occasion?
Or a tour of your garden or land, to show you all the edible species there?
Whatever you have in mind, I’ll do my best to accommodate it.

These gift vouchers start at £10 and can be any amount that you wish to purchase.
The cheapest item you can buy is a book – (here’s the list of all my books) but they can be redeemed as part payments against any item you wish to buy.
I make a bespoke voucher for you, which will be sent via email. You can then email it or post it to the recipient.
Please note that when redeeming the voucher, I will need to see the voucher either in print or as an email.
With the gift voucher, you can purchase books, courses, and, when in stock, bottles of Hedgerow Handbook Gin, which is made in conjunction with The Gower Gin Company.
I will post availability for the gin via FaceBook and Instagram as well as via my newsletter, which you can subscribe to with very little fear of me swamping your inbox.

I also give discounts for group bookings.
