The Brecon Mountain Railway
The Brecon Mountain Railway offers a charming journey through the stunning Brecon Beacons National Park in Wales. Built on part of the abandoned Brecon & Merthyr Railway, originally constructed in 1859, this historic steam railway runs from Pant near Merthyr Tydfil to Torpantau, following the path of the original route. Travel behind a vintage steam locomotive in our all-weather observation coaches and admire spectacular views on your 10-mile round journey. The railway climbs to Torpantau, high in the Brecon Beacons, before returning via Pontsticill Station.
At Pant Station, you’ll find tearooms, a gift shop, and a workshop. At Pontsticill Station, visit the Children’s Play area and Lakeside Café, or enjoy a walk around the reservoir. Both stations are open to travellers and non-travellers alike. We are also dog friendly throughout.
Facilities for disabled passengers include ramps, toilets, and an adapted carriage to accommodate wheelchairs. Discover the magic of the Brecon Mountain Railway, where history and nature converge.
Travel through the breath-taking Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) National Park aboard meticulously restored steam locomotives. Embrace the beauty and heritage of Wales on the charming Brecon Mountain Railway.
In the festive season we run our ever popular Santa Special Trains – a memorable way to celebrate Christmas!
“A very enjoyable journey with scenic views of the Brecon Beacons, and a convenient stop in the middle for refreshments at the station café. A very pleasant way of spending an afternoon and a great way to see the beautiful Welsh countryside. Would definitely recommend.” Hannah P July 2024
