Garwnant Visitor Centre

Garwnant Visitor Centre is situated in Coed Taf Fawr, a large area of forestry in the centre of the Brecon Beacons.

The visitor centre has a café, gift shop and play area. Close to the centre are several forest walks and an easy access trail running alongside a stream with platforms over a pond. The majority of this popular, family orientated site complete with play areas is on a slope. There are several kilometres of barrier-free walks available which are mainly surfaced with compacted stone. The play areas are surfaced with bark chip. A programme of children’s activities aimed at all abilities run throughout the year.

How to get there: Garwnant Visitor Centre is well signposted from the A470, 7km north of Merthyr Tydfil. A bus service provided by Stagecoach from Merthyr Tydfil to Brecon passes close to the entrance (Tel: 0871 200 2233). There is also a Beacons Bus Service which runs on Bank Holidays and Sundays throughout the summer (Tel: 01873 853254). The centre is 500m from the A470 up a gentle slope.

Facilities: The closest shops and petrol stations are in Merthyr Tydfil. Fishing permits for Llwyn-on, Beacons and Cantref Reservoirs are available from Garwnant Visitor Centre. There is a restaurant on site serving drinks, snacks and light meals - contact The Terrace Restaurant on 01685 373053.

Parking: There are plenty of parking spaces in the pay and display car park. Disabled parking spaces are closer to the main building.

Toilets: The toilets (including a disabled toilet) are next to the main building and are locked at night.
