Buses and Trains
We would like to help you to spend less time in the car while you are here. It’s easier than you might think, and it can be fun, too!
Sometimes the fun of going away is about more than just being somewhere different. It can be about taking a break from what you're used to and trying something new.
So even if you travel to our National Park by car, why not try leaving it where you're staying for a day or more and taking the opportunity to get around differently?
It's never been easier (or more important) to leave the car behind. Between buses, trains, narrowboats, bikes and your boots, we’ve got everything covered. You can find your way to towns, villages, attractions and places of pure beauty. No jams or fumes, no pay and display, no designated-driver quandaries – and the world won't shrink to the size of your windscreen.
Getting around by local bus
Key bus routes to and around our National Park are shown in the list above.
The T4 travels from Cardiff all the way to Newtown, passing through the Brecon Beacons on its journey. It’s known as the route with a view.

Every Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday, the Hay Ho! bus travels between Hay-on-Wye and Hereford. www.hayhobus.org.uk
Getting around by train
No inter-city railways pass through the centre of our National Park. However, two major lines serve some of the towns on the fringes.
The Heart of Wales line serves Llandeilo and Llandovery on its way past the west side of our Park, and the Cardiff to Manchester line serves Pontypool and Abergavenny on the eastern side.

Walking and hiking
Our many walking and hiking routes make getting from A to B on foot an exciting and enjoyable prospect. To find out more, visit our walking section.
Cycling
There’s an extensive network of on-road and off-road routes for cyclists and mountain bikers in the Brecon Beacons National Park. You can bring your bike to our Park by train (you may need to reserve in advance, though, so it’s best to check) or by the B1 or B4 Bike Bus from South Wales.
Our regular local bus services don’t carry bikes, but specialist activity companies and transport providers do.

Hiring an electric car
If you’d like to travel around our Park by car, consider hiring an electric car while you’re here.
The Eco Travel Network (www.ecotravelnetwork.co.uk) hires out a fleet of eco-friendly Renault Twizy electric cars through a small selection of tourist businesses in our park. The cost is £45 per day, with reduced rates for longer rental periods.
ETN has also helped create a network of pay-as-you-go charging points at local attractions, activity centres, accommodation and places to eat and drink all over our Park, so that you can charge up over lunch, during an afternoon activity or overnight.
The Twizy is a nippy little two-seater with a quiet engine and a range of around 50 miles. Why not give one a spin?
Hiring an electric dayboat or narrowboat
Brecon Park Boats, hire out eco-friendly electric dayboats on a half day or daily basis. For longer periods, they have two electric liveaboard narrowboats which each sleep up to four adults and cover up to 18 miles on a single charge.
